You have gone through a lot of preparation for your job interview – researching the healthcare facility and practicing answers to interview questions. After the interview, however, there is still one more thing you need to do, something that is just as important as your preparation.
That is writing a note to the hiring manager expressing your gratitude for the opportunity to interview with the healthcare organization. You should send the note as soon as possible following the interview.
In the note, emphasize your interest in the job and explicitly ask for the position. The note also gives you the opportunity to expand upon your answers during the interview. If there was a question you feel you did not answer adequately, you can supply the additional information in the note. You can also briefly reemphasize your skills, what you can bring to the organization and why you are the best person for the job.
Writing it by Hand
These days, most people send post-interview thank-you notes through email. And that is perfectly acceptable. However, if you want to stand out from the crowd, send a handwritten note on good stationary.
You will probably be the only person to do so, making your note all the more memorable to the hiring manager. Writing it by hand also personalizes it in a way you cannot do with email. Moreover, writing it by hand will also help you clarify your thoughts. You should write a rough draft and then edit it, which will enable you to refine your note.
At some point during the interview, the hiring manager generally outlines what the next step is in the process. They will probably give you some indication of when the company will contact you going forward.
If you still have not heard from the company within the expected time period, it is perfectly acceptable to give the hiring manager a call to try to gain some information as to where things stand in the hiring process.
