Like any other job, if you have worked as a pharmacist for an extended period of time, you may begin to feel some fatigue and boredom at work. The routine of the job has sapped some of your energy and motivation. You are in a rut.
Not to worry, though. There are things you can do to recharge your batteries and spark interest in your profession again. Here are a few.
You can find a book or article in print or online about any aspect of pharmacy that interests you or you would like to learn more about. This is one way to recharge interest in your profession.
Maybe you would like to learn about the history of pharmacy or a pharmacy specialty area or more about the business end of the profession. You can explore any of these areas through reading.
Enroll in a course
Classes to continue pharmacy education are available online so that you can sign up for one at any time. Or you can go the more traditional route with a classroom setting, which will allow you to meet new people as well.
Take a course that interests and excites you. You may want to take a class that will help you develop other related skills, like psychology, to help you better understand how the mind works, which will help deal with patients. Or you can take a business-related course to help with the business end of running a pharmacy.
Take part in professional conferences
This is not only a great way to learn more about pharmacy, but it also allows you to travel and meet new people.
Do a little moonlighting
If you have the time, do some part-time work in a pharmacy setting different from your own for a change of pace. For example, if you work as a hospital pharmacist, you can spend some time working in a community pharmacy. This will allow you to work directly with patients, something which you might not have the opportunity to do working in a hospital pharmacy..
This also gives you an opportunity to meet new people and learn from them.
You don’t have to wait until you are searching for a job to network. It is something you can do anytime. Now, as communication is just about all digital, it is easier than ever to do. For example, you can set up a profile on LinkedIn and join professional groups online to share information and ideas.
You can write blogs and comment on the articles posted by others.
