You are feeling dissatisfied with your pharmacy job. It doesn’t excite you anymore. You feel like you are in a rut. Is it time to look for another job?
Here are a few signs that it is time to move on.
A frustrating work environment
In order to feel confident in a job and to do the job well, you need to know clearly what the performance expectations are, and you need to have the support and resources you need to get the job done.
If these conditions are lacking, you won’t be able to do your job to the best of your ability and will quickly become frustrated. If, for example, you find that there are usually shortages of medications or staff, or if you find the workload to be unmanageable, it will be difficult for you to feel satisfied with your work.
Lack of recognition
You are doing your job well and have made a number of improvements to the operation of the pharmacy. Your performance overall has been outstanding. But no one in management seems to notice. There is no acknowledgment of your contributions or your work, no recognition of what you have done.
Communication is lacking
The management of the organization isn’t very good at communicating with the staff. New policies are put in place, and changes are made, with little explanation to or input from you or other staff people.
No room for advancement
Your employer gives no thought to career growth or advancement opportunities. Management does not appear to take any interest in helping staff maintain or improve their skills and knowledge to better do their jobs. You don’t see any opportunities to grow your career or to take on new responsibilities or challenges in your job.
No possibility of change
The final nail in the coffin is the reluctance to change. If there was any way to improve the above problems, it might be worth trying to salvage your current job and work to make a change. But if you have tried to make changes by registering your objections and suggesting improvements, and doing it over an extended period of time, but you run into a brick wall, this is a definite sign that you may need to look elsewhere.
